The Future of Riding: Renault’s Heritage Spirit Electric Scrambler

Renault’s Surprising Step into Electric Motorcycles

Tumamoto.com – In mid-October 2024, Renault made headlines at the Paris Motor Show with the unveiling of the Renault 4 E-Tech, an innovative electric car.

Alongside this, the French automaker introduced an unexpected addition to its lineup: the Heritage Spirit Scrambler, a retro-styled electric motorcycle.

Developed in collaboration with Ateliers Heritage Bike, this motorcycle reflects Renault’s commitment to sustainable mobility and French craftsmanship.

Under the banner of “4 movements,” Renault showcased four groundbreaking electric concepts: a mini caravan, an airplane, a water vehicle, and a motorcycle. Each product represents Renault’s vision of a versatile electric future, with market launches planned for 2025.

The Heritage Spirit Scrambler stands out as a symbol of style and performance, set to capture the hearts of eco-conscious riders. These models will be produced in limited quantities, available for pre-order starting spring 2025.

A Closer Look at the Heritage Spirit Scrambler

The Heritage Spirit Scrambler is the brainchild of Ateliers Heritage Bike, a French start-up known for its focus on local manufacturing and quality. Designed for the European 125cc category, the motorcycle boasts a peak power output of 7 kW (approximately 10 horsepower), making it accessible to younger riders with a Class A1 license or those with a B196 car license extension.

With a top speed of 99 km/h, the Scrambler combines retro aesthetics with modern engineering.

One of its most impressive features is the electric hub motor located in the rear wheel. Delivering a substantial torque of 280 Nm, the motor eliminates the need for a traditional gearbox, ensuring smooth and efficient acceleration.

This thoughtful integration of technology and design highlights Ateliers Heritage Bike’s commitment to innovation.

Key Specifications and Performance Metrics

The Heritage Spirit Scrambler operates on a 48-volt system powered by lithium-ion batteries with a 4.8 kWh capacity. This configuration offers a range of approximately 110 kilometers on a single charge, catering to urban commuters and short-distance travelers.

While detailed charging times have not been disclosed, the relatively modest battery capacity contributes to the motorcycle’s lightweight design, which tips the scales at just 137 kilograms.

In terms of dimensions, the Scrambler features a wheelbase of 1,300 millimeters, a steep steering head angle of 66 degrees, and a caster length of 136 millimeters. These specifications, combined with an 800-millimeter seat height, make the motorcycle agile and easy to handle, particularly in urban environments. The compact and lightweight build ensures a responsive and enjoyable riding experience.

Design and Chassis Details

Staying true to its retro roots, the Heritage Spirit Scrambler features a classic steel frame paired with modern suspension components. At the front, an upside-down telescopic fork from WP provides stability, while the rear is equipped with a cantilever swing arm and a central spring strut from EMC. The wire-spoke wheels, fitted with aluminum rims from Excel, further enhance its vintage appeal.

These 17-inch wheels are paired with Heidenau tires, designed to handle a variety of terrains typical of scrambler-style motorcycles.

One notable omission for traditional scrambler fans is the absence of a raised exhaust system, a design choice likely influenced by its electric powertrain. However, this does not detract from the overall charm of the motorcycle, which strikes a fine balance between old-school aesthetics and modern functionality.

Braking System and Pricing

The Heritage Spirit Scrambler is equipped with disc brakes on both wheels, featuring a 320 mm disc at the front and a 245 mm disc at the rear. Brembo supplies the calipers, with the front caliper mounted radially for enhanced braking performance.

While details about advanced braking systems such as ABS or CBS remain unconfirmed, the setup meets the basic safety requirements for its category.

As a limited-production model, the Heritage Spirit Scrambler carries a premium price tag. The standard version is priced at €24,950, while a restricted “50” version, limited to 45 km/h, is available for €23,450. These prices reflect the exclusivity and craftsmanship of the motorcycle, positioning it as a luxury item for enthusiasts.

Subsidies and Market Potential

The high price point of the Heritage Spirit Scrambler raises questions about its target market. However, subsidies for electric vehicles in France may help offset costs, making it more accessible to early adopters. These incentives are part of a broader effort to promote electromobility and support innovative start-ups. While it remains to be seen how these factors will influence sales, the Heritage Spirit Scrambler represents a bold step forward in sustainable transportation.

Conclusion

Renault’s foray into electric motorcycles with the Heritage Spirit Scrambler showcases a perfect blend of tradition and innovation. Designed by Ateliers Heritage Bike, this retro-style motorcycle offers a unique riding experience with its 7 kW electric motor and lightweight construction.

Set to launch in spring 2025 as part of a limited series, the Scrambler promises to be a standout choice for eco-conscious riders willing to invest in a premium product. With its distinctive design and advanced features, the Heritage Spirit Scrambler embodies the future of riding.
