KTM 1390 Super Duke R Endurance Test – Initial Impressions and Challenges

Mileage: 5,800 km

The KTM 1390 Super Duke R is a bike that demands attention. Known for its impressive performance, it arrived at our test garage subtly yet confidently, ready to take on the rigorous endurance test. Despite its noble heritage and dominance in terms of power, the journey started with a few unexpected challenges that could not go unnoticed.

Early on, a minor but notable electronic issue surfaced. Warning lights for range, oil, and tire pressure began to behave unpredictably. These erratic signals culminated in a complete system shutdown, leaving the Super Duke temporarily out of action. The cause? A faulty battery. Replacing the battery resolved the problem, allowing the Super Duke to return to its throne with renewed vigor.

With its new power source in place, the KTM 1390 Super Duke R showcased its extraordinary capabilities. Boasting an impressive 196 horsepower and 142 Nm of torque, it reasserted its dominance among rivals. Even the formidable Triumph Speed Triple RR had to concede to the Duke’s overwhelming power. However, the initial mileage revealed some quirks, including rough handling below 3,000 RPM and an unexpectedly long shift path between fourth and fifth gear. These minor issues did little to overshadow its overall excellence.

Performance and Ride Quality of the KTM 1390 Super Duke R

As the kilometers added up, the KTM 1390 Super Duke R continued to demonstrate why it’s revered in the motorcycle world. This naked bike excels in delivering power and precision, making it a favorite among thrill-seekers and performance enthusiasts. Its engine, with remarkable horsepower and torque, provides exhilarating acceleration and a commanding presence on the road.

However, this bike isn’t just about raw power. The handling is razor-sharp, offering riders confidence through tight corners and high-speed straights. Yet, the ride quality isn’t without its caveats. At lower RPMs, the bike’s manners can be slightly rough, requiring a bit of patience during the initial ride. Additionally, while the gear shifts are generally smooth, the aforementioned shift path between fourth and fifth gears can feel unusually lengthy. Riders need to adapt to this peculiarity for a seamless experience.

Recommendations and Accessories for the KTM 1390 Super Duke R

To enhance the riding experience, it’s essential to consider a few accessories and upgrades. A high-quality battery is a must to avoid unexpected electronic failures. Investing in durable tires that complement the bike’s performance capabilities is equally critical. For riders who frequently tackle long distances, a comfortable seat and upgraded suspension can make a world of difference.

In terms of safety, advanced brake pads and protective gear are indispensable. Adding auxiliary lights and a robust navigation system can further enhance the functionality of the Super Duke, especially for long rides or challenging conditions. With these accessories, the KTM 1390 Super Duke R becomes an even more reliable and versatile companion.
